Description

The Resuscitation Council (UK) Paediatric Immediate Life Support (PILS) provides training in the management of the seriously unwell child and paediatric cardiac arrest. It builds on the foundations of basic life support and provides a solid grounding in the management of these situations.

PILS provides a variety of skills, from managing a deteriorating patient, identifying causes of deterioration and treating cardiac arrest in children, to developing team leadership abilities.

A PILS qualification is recognised across the UK and Europe, allowing healthcare professionals to save young lives in many parts of the world.

Important Information

The Resus Council recommend a minimum if 2 weeks preparation for the course - it is not advised to book with shorter notice than this.

Eligibility
The PILS Course is appropriate for a range of Candidates including doctors, nurses, paramedics, ODPs, health visitors, school nurses, midwives, cardiac technicians, resuscitation officers, physiotherapists, dentistry professionals, ambulance technicians and medical and nursing students.
Course Structure
The RC(UK) e-PILS course blends a half-day of e-learning with a half-day of face-to-face practical learning. The e-learning and pre-course MCQ can be completed at your own pace ahead of the course, and must be completed prior to attending the face-to-face training.
All information on how to access the e-learning will be included in the pre-course joining instructions.
The face-to-face session focuses on skill stations and cardiac arrest simulations.
Pre-Course Preperation
You will receive a full pre-course information email, along with a copy of a RCUK Paediatric Immediate Life Support manual at least 2 weeks ahead of the course date. Candidates are expected to have read the manual in full prior to attending.
Course Content
During the course, you will develop the skills to:
- Recognise and provide initial treatment to the deteriorating paediatric using the A-E approach.;
- Recognise cardiac arrest in the paediatric patient and understand the difference in the initial management;
- Undertake skills of quality CPR and defibrillation (manual and/or AED and simple airway maneuvres;
- Utilise non-technical skills to facilitate initial leadership and effective team membership.
Assessment and Certification
Assessment is continuous throughout the course.
Successful Candidates receive a Resuscitation Council UK ILS provider certificate, which is valid for one year.
