NAEMT’s 10th Edition Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) is recognised around the world as the leading continuing education program for pre-hospital emergency trauma care. The mission of PHTLS is to promote and promote the importance of critical thinking and excellent trauma care in decreasing mortality in multisystem trauma patients.
PHTLS courses improve the quality of trauma care and influences better patient outcomes and decreased mortality. The program is based on a philosophy stressing the treatment of multi-system trauma patients as a unique population with specific needs. PHTLS promotes critical thinking as the foundation for providing quality care. It is based on the belief that, given a good grounding of knowledge and key principles, EMS practitioners are capable of making reasoned decisions regarding patient care.

Important Information
A minimum of 4 weeks preparation is recommended for this course in order to sufficiently review the course manual - it is not advised to book with a shorter notice than this.
At ECS we offer the UK 10th Edition course version, including a UK 10th Edition course manual.
Course practical scenarios will include outdoor realistic scenarios therefore suitable clothing and footwear must be worn additional PPE will be provided where necessary.

Eligibility
PHTLS is the global gold standard in Pre-hospital trauma education and is taught in over 66 countries. The PHTLS course is appropriate for ECAs/ ECSWs, EMTs, Paramedics, Nurses, ACPs, Doctors and other prehospital providers.
Course Structure
The 2-day course is delivered face-to-face combining interactive group lectures, skills stations and coaching and patient simulations.

The course covers the following topics:
Physiology of life and death
Scene assessment
Patient assessment
Airway
Breathing, ventilation and oxygenation
Circulation, haemorrhage and shock
Head injuries
Special circumstances such as burns, pregnancy and extremes of age
Secondary survey
Assessment
Assessment is continuous throughout the two day course, and includes a Multiple Choice Question (MCQ ) Paper exam on day two.
