Description

The Critical Care Transfer Awareness programme aims to ensure all staff involved in the intra and inter hospital transfer of Level 2 and 3 critically ill patients receive training in transfer medicine as per the Intensive Care Society (ICS) guidelines (2019).

This 1-day multi-professional course provided by Thames Valley & Wessex Critical Care Network follows a high fidelity simulation approach, allowing candidates to learn technical skills and work together to gain hands-on experience with the equipment used on transfers and share knowledge in a safe and supportive environment. This course promotes the fundamental concepts that promote safe inter and intra hospital transfer through high fidelity real-time simulation

These spaces are appropriate for those working in pre-hospital environment only. We welcome enquiries from Paramedics, ECAs and Ambulance Technicians who would like to experience multi-professional training alongside in-hospital professionals.

Please note: This course is delivered at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital.

Testimonials

“As the ECS Education and Training Lead, I recently attended the Critical Care Transfer Awareness Course to gain insight into the course aims and objectives, and how the ambulance crew supplied by Enhanced Care Services are integrated into the day. From start to end we were included in all theory and practical sessions, learning how to test and set up equipment, working with health professionals from the hospital learning how we could support both intra and inter hospital transfers. I would highly recommend this course to health care professionals wanting to gain greater understanding of the critical care transfer process.”

"Volunteering as an ambulance driver in CCT, in Ukraine, as an ECA is why I took this course and I received exactly what I hoped from it. The knowledge and understanding of the decision processes, the planning and preparation, through to the execution. The scenarios were superb and exactly what I will be doing in the coming months. Thank you for making this opportunity available."

“This course was based at Bournemouth hospital and was a great way to get an insight into critical care transfers and how multidisciplinary teams work together for intra and inter hospital transfers of critically unwell patients. The course started with two presentations then two workshops, ensuring everyone had an understanding of how the equipment worked. This was followed by a number of scenarios covering intra and inter hospital transfers. All in all, a great day and I felt I learnt loads! Thank you!”
